US Defence Spending

The White House has an online petition system. Any petition that has 25,000 signatures will receive a response. A recent petition requested that work start on a defence project, it met the required count of responses and thus received a reply. Despite the support expressed by over 35,000 signatures; the defence project was declined. The response was penned not by the Defence Department but by the Chief of the Science and Space Branch at the White House Office of Management and Budget, who seems to have more of a sense of humour than might be the case for most Pentagon officials.

  1. I like the response: ‘Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a Death Star with a fundamental flaw that can be exploited by a one-man starship?’

    It is reassuring to know that President Obama is capable of wielding a light saber, should the need arise.
