Chicken Fried Steak

Chicken Fried Steak is a Southern dish. Its name is somewhat odd, as there is no chicken involved in the cooking. I suppose since it is fried and has steak, we can state that a 66% accuracy in naming applies.

It does vaguely resemble a Wiener Schnitzel, but uses tenderized beef rather than veal. The resemblance ends there, as rather than serve it dry as with the Schnitzel, it is covered in a rich cream gravy. Fortunately, the last time I ate it, the menu was not one that showed calorie count and fat content. Comfort food is somewhat less comforting when you see nutritional information.
