On Independence Day, I went with my wife’s niece to America’s Pastime; a baseball game. This was my ninth game of the season; the eight in Oakland. Since it was the Fourth of July we were presented with small Stars and Stripes and A’s sun visors with the ‘A’ patterned in red, white, and blue. Between innings video messages from local troops stationed in Afghanistan were played.
I had a whole new perspective on the game, as my niece commented on the relative hotness of the relief pitchers. Our seats gave us an excellent view of them warming-up; hence the target of her reviews. The photograph was taken from our seat.
We also participated in what is fast becoming an East Bay tradition – watching solid pitching and excellent defence fail to create a win as the A’s offense managed just three hits and a solitary run to end up with a 2-1 defeat. They are now two games behind Seattle and trail the leaders of the AL West by 6.5 games. The only way to see the A’s play post season this year will be with the forthcoming movie "Moneyball”
