Taking it Literally

I had always assumed that the phrase “dirt farmer” described a poor agrarian scrabbling to make a living growing crops in poor soil. Driving to the airport on Wednesday I saw a sign in a field that made my realize that I might be wrong It said, “Dirt for Sale”; it would seem that here in California that dirt farmers, might actually raise revenue from the farming and sale of dirt.

  1. If the farmer makes a lot of money we’ll also have to drop the phrase “dirt poor”.

  2. Gotta love that dirt… wonder if having a dirty mouth would qualify as something to be sold as a commodity????
