There is a perception that US management is somewhat more aggresive and driven than in the UK. The title of a course on Friday bears this impression out: Mandatory Retaliation in the Workplace. Back in the UK retaliation would be discouraged in management, here it seems to be required.
Starbucks Update
I commented a while back that none of the Starbucks closures were in our town. Yesterday, I noticed that we are actually gaining yet another Starbucks. It is just off the Interstate, at the end of a street which already has a large Starbucks. I have heard that there are so many restaurants in San Francisco that if everyone in the city decided to go out and eat at the same time they could all find a seat; I think Starbucks might be attempting the same trick with their coffee shops in Fairfield
