Brunch Revisited

This Sunday my mother-in-law’s brunch trip was to The Mission Inn in Sonoma. The setting lacked the dramatic views of the ocean that last week’s location offered, but overall the food was better; especially as it offered an omelette station. Being able to order an omelette is my mother-in-law’s favourite part of the brunch experience. The champagne was far better than the week before; from a vineyard owned by Tattinger.

The location looks ideal for a weekend getaway; we may be back for our anniversary.

The only thing lacking was the photogenic chocolate desserts, so today’s picture is of the fountain outside the hotel.

Euro 2008 First Game

I watched Portugal record a relatively easy two-nil win over Turkey in their opening game of Euro 2008. I was delighted to hear the commentator describe it in those terms and not say “two – nothing”. The ESPN coverage of the 2006 World Cup employed American commentators and summarizers, who would use words such as offense and nothing and a whole dictionary of phrases that are ill suited to describing the beautiful game. For Euro 2008 there was an English commentator and Andy Gray was the summarizer; made me feel quite at home. The only give away was the news bar at the bottom of the screen which gave updates on Baseball and the basketball finals.
