Tonight I experienced the third quake since moving to the US; the fourth if you count one that I slept through. This was fairly small, 3.9, but with its epicenter close to our house, so it felt more intense than the others. It struck whilst I was watching Goodbye Lenin on DVD; my glass of wine did not spill and nothing fell off any shelves.

Phew, thank goodness there was no wine spillage, that would have just been sacrilege!
Well, according to the Gospel According to Sharon Stone, which piece of Karma did you upset to have this quake visited upon you?
…and, just for completeness, the quake was 3.84 km away at a depth on 10.8 km, so I make it (with help from Pythagoras) that you were 11.46 km from the epicenter. (Gotta love the USGS real-time earthquakes overlay for Google Earth)
Wow – THANK GOD your wine didn’t spill! I would have been so concerned if you had suffered such a tragedy. Whew – close one.
(Hey – I just noticed SF beat me to it. Great minds think alike, eh?)
As a Californian now:
I don’t know that I have ever felt an earthquake that registered below 5.0. Is 3.9 even perceptible?
Lol Ilegirl I’d hate to see us drinking wine together what a laugh that would be!
We might have it all down our fronts, but at least we would have fun.
… and naturally all while eating the perfect piece of cake
… preferably, baked by Brit’s lovely and talented wife!
Yes that woman has me drooling daily with all the things she cooks up, I think she does it to torture me… I mean 10,000 miles away and drooling is just not on!
I’ve been awoken by a 3.9 (yes, the earth moves in the UK). Quite weird, it felt as though he bed moved six inches to the east, then back again. And, although it occurred when, ostensibly, I should have been asleep, I woke a micro-second before the effect. (Of course I make have been woken by the P wave, and felt the effect of the S wave)
