All the News that is Fit to Throw

Back when I was at University, I used to play an arcade video game called “Paperboy”. In the game you would cycle down a street delivering newspapers while trying to avoid assorted obstacles. It was a game, so I though nothing of the unrealistic definition of delivery; throw the paper so it lands somewhere on the house’s property. Now, I realize that this is a lot more like real life than I had realized.

In the UK newspapers are delivered by the paperboy putting them through your letterbox. Here in the US they are just thrown in the general direction of the house; generally landing on the driveway. I don’t know what happens if it is raining and you do not get to your paper quickly.

The delivery method has been brought to my attention this week as our next door neighbours are away and at their request have been taking their papers in. They subscribe to the local Daily Republic and the Wall Street Journal
